Meaning of Software Installation

Software installation is the process of copying and configuring software files on a computer so that the program can run correctly.

 

Requirements for Software Installation

Before installing any software, the following are needed:

  • A computer system
  • Installation files (CD/DVD, flash drive, or downloaded file)
  • Enough storage space
  • Compatible operating system
  • Power supply
  • Internet connection (for online installation)

 

Methods of Software Installation

(a) Installation from CD/DVD

This involves inserting a software disc into the computer and following the installation instructions.

(b) Installation from Flash Drive

Software is copied from a USB flash drive to the computer and installed.

(c) Online Installation

Software is downloaded from the internet and installed on the computer.

(d) Pre-installed Software

Some software comes already installed on a new computer.

  1. Turn on the computer
  2. Locate the installation file
  3. Double-click the setup or installer file
  4. Read and accept the license agreement
  5. Choose the installation location
  6. Click Install
