Definition,Fields, Qualities of a good Computer Professional and Computer Professional Bodies


Definition of Computer Professionals

Computer professionals are individuals that have obtained sufficient/formal education and training in the field of computers and earn their livelihood from their chosen profession.

Computer Professionals are:

1. Data Administrator

2. System Analyst

3. Programmer

4. Network administrator

5. Website developer/designer/ administrator

6. Computer engineer

7. Computer hardware technician

8. Data Processing manager

9. Computer graphics designer/artist

10. Computer Operator

1. Data Administrator: Creates, updates and manages database.

2. System Analyst: Carries out feasibility studies on systems design. He also liaises between the user and the programmer.

3. Programmer: writes codes and instructions for the computer system.

4. Network administrator: Set up, oversee, and coordinate the smooth functioning of the computer network.

5. Website developer/designer/ administrator: designs, develops, updates, and maintains websites. He is also responsible for website security.

6. Computer engineer: provides hardware specifications, develops system programs, and troubleshoot computers.

7. Computer hardware technician: maintains, repair, upgrade and setup computers

8. Data Processing manager: Plans, organizes, coordinates, and reviews the activities of data processing staff.

9. Computer graphics designer/artist: This is a professional who does complex art and design works.

10. Computer Operator: This is the person that ensures continuous running of the computer system’s process.

Duties and Qualities of a  good Computer Professional

1. Excellent analytical skills to develop ideas and solve problems

2. He/ she must be committed to learning new things.

3. He/she must pay attention to details

4. He/she must have good communication skills

5. He/she must be good in Math in order to solve programming and circuits problems.

6. He/she must have good troubleshooting capabilities

7. He/she must have good technical writing skill in order to assist those who have limited knowledge of the computer world.

8. He/she must be versatile in other fields like business and finance.

9. He/she must have resting time

10. He/she must belong to a professional body

1. Nigeria Computer Society (NCS)

2. Institute of Management Information System (IMIS)

3. Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN)
