MEANING OF SEARCH ENGINE
A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web (database) through a computer/mobile phone. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs). The information may be a mix of web pages, images, and other types of files.

HOW DO SEARCH ENGINE WORKS ?
Google search takes place in the following stages:
(i) Crawling
(ii) Indexing
(iii) Searching and Ranking
(i) Crawling: Crawlers discover what pages exist on the web. It is also known as url (uniform resource locator) discovery.
(ii) Indexing: After a page is crawled, the textual content is processed, analyzed and tagged.
(iii) Searching and Ranking : When a user enters a query(question), the search engine searches the index for matching pages and return the relevant results.
Search Engines can be used to:
· Easily find and download information on any topic.
· Get definition of words, acronyms etc.
· Carry out research.
· Used to find images, pictures and sound.
· Search for information about people, places and product.

- Download applications from the internet
